Codes And Conventions Of Harry Potter Trailer :

MISE EN SCENE
- The dark lighting filter suggests a dark/eerie atmosphere as soon as the trailer kicks in, dark is often associated with Horror movies and Suppernatural aspects.
-  Flashes of what appear to be lightning at the start, use of lighting reflects the Suppernatural theme, flashes imply danger and enhance eeriness. The dark lighting feature throughout the trailer, implying this movie will be dark in theme.
- The characters facial expressions throughout are tired and worn-out, often swetting, implying danger and adrenaline.

Edits

- The strong use of fade out transitions at the start of the trailer add to the eerie atmosphere and suggest un-easiness, backed up with the slow, eerie theme music.
- Followed by Jump-Cuts and Cut Aways, emphasising the sudden up-tempo of the theme music, the cut aways suggests a fast-paced, action packed movie, with lots of danger!

Music
- The music in the trailer starts off very slow, creating an eerie atmosphere and building suspense, with a thin texture and added reverb.

- The texture and tempo then build as the cut-aways get more intense, eventually coming to a climax were the music fades and main title is shown, the tempo and texture building both imply that something Epic is taking place, something fast-paced and exciting.

Titles

- The titles are shown mid-way through the trailer with the Movie Font and clouds in the background with a dark over-lay. The movie font in the titles creates synergy and the clouds in the background are associated with horror movies and sadness, the most common codes and conventions of a cloud.

- The main title at the end of the trailer is shown with lightning striking from it in 3D, lighting is associated again with Horror and could imply Magic, the movies main theme.

Canmera Angles

- A strong use of close ups and zoom ins at the beginning to build suspense.
- Fade outs and close ups continue throughout
- Over head shots, fast paced moving shots, dolly shots, helicopter shots, extreme close ups, all feature strongly throughout the quick cuts to build tension and adrenaline towards the end.

Narration

- Mainly just Character quotes from the movie over the footage in an eerie whisper, adding suspense, implying suppernatural elements.

- At the end of the trailer there is a British Man reading out information regarding the movie.

In comparrison with this other main Harry Potter Movie trailer, both feature almost identical elements and use similar techniques to grab the audiences attention.

This trailer opens with an impressive establishing shot, making the audience interested in what is taking place. A slow pace follows a black fade out untill Voldermort is reveiled. Similar to the other trailer. both do not need to explain the plot of the movie in any great depth as Warner Brothers are aware that the franchise does not need any introductionary text, it is established world wide.

The trailer continues it's slow pace unlike the previous trailer, showing various medium and close up shots of the main characters, it then speeds up the tempo with a series of jump cuts, followed by the concluding signature Harry Potter text to close the trailer.
